The fun never stops: Labsters out and about
March 13, 2016
Over the past few weeks many of our
Labsters have been stepping outside the office to attend a number of
interesting and different events. From conferences on finance and business, to
philosophical talks about empathy, and even tech events overseas and
interstate, there’s been a lot keeping us entertained!
a little snapshot of just what we’ve been up to!
Sarah and Kristy are currently soaking up all things tech, brands, music and the world at the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
On Tuesday, Neale and Sam headed to Sydney to present at the tenth anniversary of ad:tech Australia. As part of the two-day conference, we presented alongside Group Director, Audience and Analytics at Nine Entertainment, Steve Weaver, on the ability of qualitative research to complement digital to help bridge the 'empathy' gap.
Our Strategy Director, Matt, recently attended the 2016 AFR Business Summit this week, where numerous keynote speakers, from the more traditional to the new ground breakers, discussed the economy and world business. He also attended focus sessions, panel discussions and debates around changes in business, current issues and future trends. Keep an eye out for some of Matt’s musings on this summit in the coming weeks!
Lisa, Carina, Sarah and Lena attended the International Women’s Day Forum as part of the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Our thoughts are summarised here: The Tide of Constant Change
Our resident designer, Julie, participated in Gnomon Live Australia’s weekend session of talks, demonstrations and workshops from Hollywood’s Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games + Animation at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne. They explored how artists bring stories and characters to life using graphics. Julie particularly enjoyed seeing how personal and passionate the artists were in real life, and how their thirst for constant knowledge is enabling them to create mind-blowing things.
Finally, Audrey, Jen and Lena recently attended The School of Life’s Empathy in Australia talk at the Melbourne Town Hall. Moderated by Roman Krznaric, and featuring impressive panellists – Tara Moss, Deborah Cheetham, Julian Burnside, Susan Carland, and Chris Judd - the event delved into what it means to be empathetic, discussed the role empathy plays within society, and challenged everyone in attendance to view the world from someone else’s perspective every day.
We’re keeping our ears to the ground, listening out for more interesting events in store for us for the rest of 2016. We look forward to sharing more with you about what we’re up to!
